Pens, Cages or Hutches?
One of the most important things to invest in for your rabbits is their safe living area. There are nearly endless options and you have an abundance of room to get creative! What works for your home may not work for another person's home but we have recommendations. Sometimes using these items in combination is the best method. It’s important to note that when you have a bunny that has not yet reached their mature size, they can squeeze in or out of tight spaces easily. Since our breeds are all dwarfs, even some of our adults can escape small spaces. So when choosing to create safe spaces be mindful of the width of bars, gate slats and similar.
Pens
- XPens are very popular for rabbits. There are also allow portability from inside to outside. They allow a rabbit to have a large safe space. We recommend: MidWest Homes for Pets Folding Metal Exercise Pen in 24" high.
- Mesh/Wire Cube pens that are interchangeable and offer an endless way to set them up. We recommend: SONGMICS Pet Playpen Includes Cable Ties, Metal Wire Apartment-Style Two-Story Bunny Fence and Kennel
- The same concept as the wire pens above but with clear panels. We recommend: PINVNBY Pet Playpen Small Animals Portable Resin Playpens Fence Cage Yard Outdoor & Indoor for Small Rabbit Cat Puppy Guinea Pig Bunny Hedgehogs Rats(12 Panels/13.8 X 17.7 inches)
If you're looking for floor protection/crate floor protection and reusable pads that can be washed over and over we use and recommend these items:

- We also find that reusable incontinence pads work well also. We recommend: Non-Slip Bed Pads for Incontinence Washable (36" x 52"|2 Pack)
Cages
Cages are acceptable for rabbits if they are the right size and the rabbit is able to have plenty of play time outside of their house daily. Sometimes families prefer closed cages or hutches because it works better for your home. We recommend also getting an XPen and attach it to the outside of the cage for your rabbit to use.
- Our first recommendation for a quality closed cage because of it's large size 46.9" x 22.8" x 24". It also has a tall round top which allows top space for stretching up: Living World Deluxe Habitat in XLarge
- There are some set ups that have a closed cage and play pen attached. We'd recommend: PawHut Small Animal House with Expandable Wire Fence in size 46.5"L x 67" w x 24.5" h.
Hutches
There are many hutches out on the market and not all of them are made the same. There are plenty of poorly built. Originally hutches were intended for rabbits to be outside but over the last few years it's become popular to have hutches inside. Some have super fun designs and it allows your rabbit to have a house inside the house. Your rabbit will need access to be out daily for all their zoomies and stretching.
We love Aivituvin Hutches! They have many designs available and they're made well.
